Van Gogh, Vincent - Landscape with House and Ploughman
A Museum Quality Reproduction Print of Landscape with House and Ploughman by Vincent Van Gogh for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist painted this oil on canvas in 1889 while at St. Remy with the original measuring 13 by 16 inches in size and now resides at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg Russia. This was an unusual landscape for Van Gogh because it is at an elevated birds eye point of view, probably from the Japanese influence that the artist experimented with for awhile in his career. The painting has enormous energy with the crossing diagonals forming the edges of the fields, the plowed furrows, the contours of the roof, the rows of cypress trees, all strain the composition but do not disturb the unity of the whole. The colors and actions of the people tell us this was painted in the fall when Van Gogh worked outside the grounds of the asylum. This art is also sometimes known as Valley With Ploughman Seen From Above. Van Gogh was tight with the paint on this painting, there are big areas of white canvas showing.
