Van Gogh referred to this artwork as The Painting of the Garden with Sweethearts. This canvas was done in the Pointillist style, which kept the artist occupied during the summer of 1887. This technique uses small dots of unmixed colors which are placed close together. However, on this painting, Van Gogh uses small stripes instead of dots. This was one of the largest canvas's that Van ever painted and it was the first one that he exhibited in Paris. This oil on canvas measures 29.5 by 44.5 inches and the original is now located at the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.
