The artist used a medium of watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink when he finished this artwork for the Index of American Design in 1937. The painting is now at the National Gallery of Art. The antique drum has a large eagle in the center holding a red, white and blue patriotic shield and over the eagle is a banner with 96th Infantry and some other information which can't be read. The main body of this civil war artifact is dark blue with a red band at the top and bottom.
