Sargent John Singer - Gondolier's Siesta Art Print
An archival premium Quality art Print of Gondolier's Siesta by John Singer Sargent for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist painted this watercolor on paper in the year 1905 with the original size being 14 by 20 inches and now belongs in a private collection. This is a departure from Sargent's usual scenes of Venice, most of his Venitian paintings had clear blue skies and more vibrant, this one has an overcast sky, more subdued, shadowy and even mysterious. It is rare also in that the artist dated this work in the bottom right corner. The drawing shows two gondoliers in their boats upon the water in front of Venitian buildings, they are resting before starting work again. This was most likely drawn from the artist's own boat as this is how he usually painted his scenes from Venice. Famous artists print #96
