Renoir PIerre Auguste - Gabrielle and Jean
A Museum Quality fine art print of Gabrielle and Jean painted by French Impressionist artist Pierre Auguste Renoir in 1895. The woman featured in this artwork was Gabrielle Renard who was a French woman and cousin to Mrs. Renoir, who became the nanny for the Renoir family and later served as the Nurse to the artist. The child in the painting is the artist's second son, Jean to whom Gabrielle developed a strong bond which lasted throughout their lives. Gabrielle was fascinated by the new moving picture films and took Jean to the movies during his childhood. He later went on to become a renowned film maker in Hollywood. Gabrielle was used as the model for many of Renoir's artwork. In later years when Renoir developed rheumatoid arthritis, Gabrielle would help the artist with his paintings by placing the paint brushes into the artist's hand.
