An archival premium Quality Botanical art Print of the Vanilla Phalaenopsis Orchid by Louis Van Houtte for sale by Brandywine General Store. The French botanical artist drew this tall white orchid for his horticultural journal, The Flowers of the Greenhouses and Gardens of Europe with this particular blooming flower being in volume 17, plate 97 from the year 1867. The vanilla phalaenopsis orchid is an epiphyte of a large size. It is native to the granitic inner islands of Seychelles archipelago (Mahe, Praslin and Silhouette. The genus vanilla includes about 100 different species which are found from tropical Africa, Asia and America with most of the related species grown in Madagascar and southeastern Asia. They grow best in sunny places with granite hills, from sea level up to an elevation of about 1,000 feet. They require only a shallow, poor soil, stoney and a hot climate.
