Morland, George - The Old Water Mill
A Museum Quality Print of The Old Water Mill by George Morland. This English artist finished the oil on canvas in the year 1790 with the original being 39 by 49 inches in size and now resides at the Yale Center for British Art. The scene shows a quaint old mill in the country with a thatch or sod roof and the water running through the building still turning the large wheel which was used to grind the wheat or grains. A family is crossing the creek bringing 2 large baskets of wheat on a donkey for the millwright to grind for them. Several children and a dog are in this family. To the right of the mill is a horse drawn cart, horse and a large barrel. This probably belonged to the mill owner or another customer that was was more well to do than the family shown crossing the creek.
