Lincoln in The Peacemakers Art Print by George Healy
An archival premium Quality art Print of The Peacemakers by George Peter Alexander Healy for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in 1868. The size of the original artwork is 47 by 62 inches and now hangs in the White House. The scene depicts Major General William T. Sherman, Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant, President Abraham Lincoln and Rear Admiral David D. Porter. These four men had gathered on board the Union steamer River Queen. The time is just prior to the fall of Petersburg, Virginia, with these Union leaders meeting to discuss the peace terms they were going to impose upon the Confederate South when they finally surrendered. Each man has his own individual thoughts with each man divided by a window of the steamer with President Lincoln even more aloof with his head down being held by his hand. A rainbow is outside signifying that peace is about to fall upon the embattled, war ravaged land. Civil War art print #37
