An archival premium Quality art Print of the lithograph of the Antietam Civil War Battle by Kurz and Allison in 1888 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The scene depicts Ambrose Burnside capturing the stone bridge over Antietam Creek which took place on September 17, 1862. This battle was the first of the Civil War to be fought on Union soil, Robert E. Lee and Confederate leaders thought that the citizens of Maryland would welcome the Confederate Soldiers, but by this time the Union sympathies were winning over and the southern troops were not welcomed. Despite the heavy casualties on both sides, the Battle of Antietam was more or less a draw. General McClellan had the chance to destroy Lee's army, but due to indecision and miscalculations by the Union leaders, Lee was able to withdraw his army and continue fighting. However the Maryland campaign ended for the Confederates and this in turn led to Lincoln having enough confidence to announce the Emancipation Proclamation. The failure of Lee and Stonewall Jackson to lead the war into Union territory also discouraged the French and British from recognizing the Confederate States of America. Civil war art print #01
