An archival premium Quality art Print of Sharitahrish Native American Portrait by Charles Bird King for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist painted this canvas in 1822 with the original artwork now being displayed in the Library of the White House. Sharitahrish was the principal chief or head man of the Grand Pawnees which was the main body of the Pawnee Nation. He succeeded his elder brother, Tarecawawaho or Long Hair as Chief of the tribe. Long Hair had been invited to Washington DC by President James Monroe, however this proud chief refused to go. He thought the Pawnee were superior and the greatest people in the world and he the most important chief so he would not bow down to the President. He did however send a contingent which included his younger brother, Sharitahrish, who soon saw that the white man had more power and more men to bring to war than did the Indians. Sharitahrish was a chief of noble form and fine bearing, he was 6 feet tall and well proportioned and when mounted on the fiery steed of the prairie he made a graceful and imposing personage.
