The artist finished this oil on canvas in the year 1571 with the original size being 192 by 297 centimeters and now resides at the Prado National Museum. With a halo of sainthood over his head, Jesus extends his arm to the centurion who having converted to the Christian faith, kneels at his feet as told in the New Testament in the Book of Matthew Chapter 8, versus 5 - 13. Jesus tells the Centurion that he will come to his house and heal his servant, but the Centurion says he is not worthy of such a visit, that he has much faith in Jesus and that he thinks all he has to do is say he is healed and he will be healed. Jesus was impressed with the faith of this man and sure enough, when the centurion arrived at his home, his servant was completely cured. A Centurion was a Roman officer who was the leader of 100 soldiers. Religious art print #28
