An archival premium quality Religious art print of The Tribute Money painted by Bernardo Strozzi for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas sometime during the 1630s. The size of the original artwork is 62 by 89 inches and now hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest arriving at that institution from the Esterhazy Collection. The composition shows the moment in time when the Pharisees were trying to trick Jesus into making disparaging remarks against the Roman authorities by asking him if it was okay to pay taxes to the Emperor. Jesus replied "Render Therefore unto Ceasar the things which are Ceasars and unto God the things that are Gods." This story is told in the New Testament of the Bible in Matthew Chapter 22, Verse 15. This scene was painted in several versions by the artist and his workshop. This example is thought to have been painted solely by the artist shortly after he abandoned his vows as a Capuchin Monk and left Genoa to settle in Venice sometime around the period of 1630. The art is Baroque in appearance, Strozzi contrasts the human wisdom and goodness of Jesus against the vile curiosity of his opponents who are poised to attack. Religious art print #51
