This composition was taken from almost the top of Spruce Knob which is the tallest mountain in the state of West Virginia. The time was late fall, when most of the color was already gone, but still nice shades of brown, yellow and reds still linger in these high altitude woods. Fall comes early to the summit of Spruce Knob as the temperatures up here probably average 15 degrees cooler than the valley floor below.
