The artist finished this oil on canvas in 1918, only one year after the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. The original art now resides at the State Russian Museum in Moscow. This woman belongs to the rich merchant class of the country, she is facing towards the viewer, looking slightly away, while the Russian city scene is behind her full of Churches, Domes and Trees. Abundance abounds, from the shiny samovar, the tea service, sliced watermelon, plates of lush fruits to the baked goods. Her ample figure is a picture of perfect health and dominates the tea table and the surrounding area. This work has an oriental richness of color that Kustodiev saw as part of his Astrakhan heritage. A cat is sitting on the banister rubbing against it's mistress. This is one of the most famous works of the Russian artist. Famous Artists print #124
