An archival premium Quality art Print of Eagle of Delight a Native American Portrait by Charles Bird King for sale by Brandywine General Store. Eagle of Delight, also known as Hayne Hudjihini in Chiwere, was born in 1795 and died in 1822. She was one of the five wives of Chief Shaumonekusse of the Otoe tribe in the 1st quarter of the 19th century who were based in present day Nebraska. In 1822, she accompanied her husband to Washington DC with an Indian delegation made up of different Indian chiefs to meet President James Monroe. The Bureau of Indian affairs commissioned Charles Bird King to paint this portrait and also one of her husband. Everyone who met Eagle of Delight described her as being beautiful and charming. Shortly after her visit to DC she died of measles which most likely were contracted during her travels. The original portrait of Eagle of Delight was destroyed by a fire in the Smithsonian in 1865, however a patron donated King's personal copy to the White House in 1962 where it now hangs in the White House library.
