An archival premium Quality art Print of General Ulysses S. Grant at Chattanooga Tennessee for sale by Brandywine General Store. This beautiful portrait of President Grant shows him on the battlefield dressed in his finest uniform with a gold sash, sword with a gold colored handle and a long white glove. He is holding his field glasses in his hand, these are what he would have used to keep a check on the goings on in the battle field. He is standing over a demolished cannon that has been hit with gunfire. A United States flag is draped over the cannon. A confederate soldier with a white horse is in the background. John Antrobus was the first artist to draw President Grant from real life and this portrait is what this reproduction was made over. After his victories on the battlefield in the Civil War the public was clamoring to see what the General and future President Grant looked like. Newspapers could not yet print pictures only engravings and some of these were not very good of Grant so this portrait was commissioned. On this facsimile print in a shield at the bottom are listed some of Grant's battlefield victories namely Donelson, Shiloh, Vicksburg and Chattanooga. The portrait and the battle scene are surrounded by a fancy gold and red frame with huge stars in each of the corners. Around this is a white and then a dark blue border. Written in the white border at the bottom of this picture is the following - Facsimile of the celebrated Antrobus portrait of General US Grant - Painted on the battlefield of Chattanooga 1863-4. A souvenir of the great past, Respectfully dedicated to the Grand Army of the Republic. We have added a slim blue border around the outside of this print, if you would rather not have the blue border just let us know and it can be removed. Civil War art print #35
