An archival premium Quality Print of The Summer by Arcimboldo Giuseppe for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil in lime wood painting in the year 1563. The size of the original is 33 by 22 inches and now hangs in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The artist began his career by painting stained glass windows for the Milan Cathedral but he left Italy in 1562 to become court painter to the Hapsburg Kings in Vienna and Prague. He later though returned to Milan. Summer was painted for Emperor Maximillian II and was part of the series that depicted the Four Seasons. The painting portrays a human face made entirely of vegetables. Its almost impossible to figure out all the vegetables used in this artwork, but some are apples, pears, cherries, potato, a cucumber or pickle was used for the nose, grapes, garlic and peas, raspberries, ear of corn, egg plant, onions and many more vegetables are utilized. Ears of wheat are growing out of the collar of the tunic which bears the artists name and date. Old Masters art print #57
