Our archival landscape shows a bright red carpet of blueberry bushes decked out in their fall colors, with some wild mountain laurel and rocks mixed throughout. In the background is a stand of red spruce trees. On the right is a perfect example of the one sided red spruce trees that grows on Dolly Sods. The Dolly Sods Wilderness area is a high elevation plateau which is around 4,000 feet in height, making it the highest elevation plateau of its kind in the United States east of the Mississippi River. This is also a very harsh climate, sometimes during a bad winter the temps can get to 30 below zero and can have over 100 inches of snow through the winter season.
