An archival premium Quality Botanical Art Print of the Jupiter Dahlia by Louis van Houtte for sale by Brandywine General Store. The French Botanical artist drew the flower for his famous horticultural journals, The Flowers of the Gardens and Greenhouses of Europe. This dahlia was plate or picture number 27 in volume 14 which was published around 1861. This almost perfect dahlia was developed by a Mr. Rawlings. The dark red is so deep in color that it appears to be black instead of red. This flower would have been quite a prize in any Victorian garden of a 100 years ago. Dahlia bulbs or roots can be dug in the fall and kept in the cellar and then divided and replanted the following spring. They are similar in appearance to potatoes. Botanical art print #123
