A Museum Quality Print of a Portrait of a Man, Said to be Christopher Columbus painted by Sebastiano del Piombo for sale by Brandywine General Store. This oil on canvas was finished by the Venetian Master of High Renaissance in the year 1519 with the size of the original artwork being 42 by 35 inches. This work was painted in Rome by Sebastiano del Piombo and the badly damaged portrait is said to be of the explorer Christopher Columbus. The inscription written along the top of the painting identifies him as The Ligurian Colombo, the first to enter by ship into the World of the Antipodes 1519. However, this writing can not be authenticated as to its truthfulness. The date 1519 means that this was done after the death of Columbus which occurred in 1506. No known authenticated likeness exists of the famous explorer and founder of the Americas, however this one is one of the earliest works claiming to be Christopher Columbus.
