Fine Art Prints of Distinction

$9.99
SKU: Old Masters #44

A Museum Quality Art Print of a Bouquet of Flowers in a Stone Niche by Ambrosius Borschaerts the Elder for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on copper in the year 1618 with the original now hanging in Statens Museum for Kunst or National Gallery of Denmark where it has resided since 1791. You almost feel like you can reach out and pick these flowers as they look so real. If not for the heavy ornamental frame around the art, you could mistake this for an actual stone niche. This optical illusion or Trompe l'oeil effect is exaggerated by the placement of the yellow rose laying beside the vase, extending beyond the edge of the stone niche. Ambrosius Borschaerts the elder was one of the first artists in history to make flowers a motif in their own right as a still life, which was appealing to the growing middle class of Dutch in the early 17th century. Some of the flowers in this vase are roses, tulips, carnations, coral bells, iris and many more, about every flower color known is represented in this colorful painting. Old Masters Painting #44
