An archival premium Quality art Print of Fight for the Water Hole by Frederic Remington for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in the year 1903 with the original now hanging at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston Texas, being a gift of Miss Ima Hogg. This masterpiece by Remington depicts life as how it was in the days of the American Wild West. Cowboys are hiding in a water hole, which is their source of survival in the dry desert climate and the bowl in the ground also affords them protection from the Plains Indians. The large shadow at the edge of the water hole signifies passing - including the ever present threat of death from the harsh western climates, from the warring Indian tribes and maybe even the passing of the Old West itself. The scene shows a group of cowboys taking protection in the water hole, which is a hole in the ground, their horses are in the decline with them. Coming across the desert floor are warring Indians, All five of the cowboys are up on the precipice of the water hole shooting at the Indians with their rifles, hoping to kill them all before they can reach the waterhole. This painting was originally published in Collier's magazine in 1903, being a part of Remington's four year contract with the magazine to publish one of his prints each month in this magazine.
