Tiepolo, Giambattista - The Stigmatization of Saint Francis Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Stigmatization of St. Francis painted by Giambattista Tiepolo for sale by Brandywine General Store. Tiepolo was an Italian painter who lived from 1696 to 1770. This painting is a depiction of a miracle in the life of St. Francis of Assisi that occurred in the year 1224 during the Celebration in Praise of the Holy Cross. When the Saint withdrew to pray, he received the stigmata from a seraph; the same wounds suffered by Christ on the cross. An Angel holds Saint Francis so his body does not collapse in ecstasy. This canvas was one of a set of paintings that Tiepolo painted for the Convent Church of San Pascual in Aranjuez and this one is now currently hanging in the Courtauld Gallery in London.
