Monument Valley is located along the Arizona - Utah state line near the 4 corner area and lies within the Navajo Indian Nation reservation. The valley's vivid red color comes from iron oxide with the darker blue gray rocks consisting of manganese oxide. This area has been the setting of hundreds of western movies.
